Computational Genetics and Genome Plasticity
DNA is the carrier of all inheritable information. But despite the high stability of DNA molecules, genomes change over time. Changes in the DNA sequence can be introduced by controlled pathways like recombination or by spontaneous, mutagen-induced influences. We are interested how, why and to what degree genomes change over time and how these changes influence the phenotype of an organism. As this requires reconstruction of genome sequences, we explore the possibilities of state-of-the-art genomic tools and try to push the limits of these technologies beyond their current limits.
